If you develop software for a living, you need at least one "dynamic" language in your toolkit. Languages that make it easy to do meta-programming are invaluable for many types of problems. If you are a Java developer or you develop software for the JVM, there are compelling reasons for investing in Groovy and the numerous Groovy-based frameworks -- Grails, Griffon, Gradle, Spock, Gaelyk, etc.

The purpose of this group is not to promote the Groovy language and frameworks over some other technology. The goal is to develop a local community for learning from and sharing with other users about experiences with Groovy. It is for passionate developers who want to build software better, faster, and have more fun doing it. No previous experience with Groovy is required, but if you are new to programming, this is probably not the group for you.

Since the Groovy community is much smaller than the Java community, we will aim to have meetings in a geographically central location (ideally in DC or Arlington). We will strive to have a focused talk at each meeting, with a reserved time for discussion topics and member questions. So far, so good!
